Isosorbide Mononitrate can be used to decrease the frequency and severity of anginal (chest pain) episodes and to reduce the need for sublingual (taken under the tongue) nitroglycerin.
Isosorbide Mononitrate widens the arteries that carry blood to the heart muscle and relax the veins that return blood from the body to the heart. Isosorbide Mononitrate is usually taken first thing in the morning before breakfast. Take each dose with a full glass of water.

It is best not to drink alcohol while you are taking Isosorbide Mononitrate. If you do drink alcohol, drink only a little and be aware of its effect on you.
