Ponstel (generic name: mefenamic acid; brand names include: Ponstan) belongs to a group of medicines known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Ponstel is used for short-term relief of mild to moderate pain caused be various conditions.
Ponstel is also used to decrease pain and blood loss during menstrual periods.
Recommendations
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take your medicine exactly as directed.
For the relief of acute pain:
the usual recommended dose is 500 mg as an initial dose followed by 250 mg every 6 hours as needed.
For the relief of menstrual pain:
the usual recommended dose is 500 mg as an initial dose followed by 250 mg every 6 hours starting with the onset of bleeding and associated symptoms.
