Celebrex
Description
Celebrex (generic name: Celecoxib; brand name: Celebra / Cobix / Celcoxx / Selecap) belongs to a group of medicines known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Celebrex is indicated for:
Osteoarthritis
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis in patients 2 years and older
Ankylosing Spondylitis
Acute Pain
Primary Dysmenorrhea
Familial Adenomatous Polyposis - adjunct to usual care
Recommendations
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Celebrex exactly as directed.
The usual dosage is:
For osteoarthritis - 200 mg once daily or 100 mg twice daily
For rheumatoid arthritis - 100 to 200 mg twice daily
For juvenile rheumatoid arthritis: 50 mg twice daily in patients 10-25 kg, 100 mg twice daily in
patients more than 25 kg
For ankylosing spondylitis - 200 mg once daily single dose or 100 mg twicedaily. If no effect
is observed after 6 weeks, a trial of 400 mg (single or divided doses)
may be of benefit
For acute pain and primary dysmenorrhea - 400 mg initially, followed by 200 mg dose if needed on first
day. On subsequent days, 200 mg twice daily as needed
For familial adenomatous polyposis: 400 mg twice daily with food, as an adjunct to usual care
Precautions
Before taking Celebrex, tell your doctor if:
you are allergic to any medicines;
you have heart problems, or a history of stroke;
you have a history of ulcers.
